Back to School Night 2011

Sariah has been working on her 1st grade rainforest project all spring. This is the final outcome! We learned tons about the Red Ruffed Lemur. The inside of the project has the habitat and interesting facts.
Jonah's big 5th grade project was on the state of Utah. His big state project filled his 1/2" binder and he also made a tri-fold project for display at the big State show where the rest of the school comes to see all the projects. In 5th grade everyone learns state capitals, abbreviations, spelling and position on a map. It's quite an undertaking learning all that information. At dinner we've been quizzing all the kids so everyone is learning state capitals.
Katie John has been working hard all year. Recently she put together a very big poster about Lynxs. She researched, printed pictures and gave an oral presentation. On her desk you can see an art project with clay that the class did just last week.

John and I are very happy the kids are doing well in school and that they have a great school to attend. Yay back to school night!

50's Day at School

This year is the 50th anniversary of our school. Today is 50's day. I made these skirts for the girls to wear. They picked matching records as their skirt decoration.
Keira and her best friend Porter looked adorable in their outfits!

Graduation Day!

My sister Julie has just graduated 6th grade at C.W. Dillard Elementary! It just so happens that she is the LAST of my 9 brothers and sisters to graduate from this elementary school.
Four of the sisters (Sherry, Julie, Christina, Emily) are here posing in front of the same school sign that has been up since before our family arrived in Wilton in 1986.

Julie gave one of three commencement speeches picked from a school wide competition. Following the slide show presentation chronicling the graduates journey, there was a very fun and yummy cake that had every single one of the graduates names on it. After all the photos and hugs the kids and I went to my mom's for some visiting. All in all, despite trying to juggle, corral and shush 3 little kids, pay attention, take pictures and shoot a video during the graduation we had a really memorable day. I'm glad we made the effort to go!

Jog-a-thon Excitement

The small cheerleaders watch from the sidelines! (Dylan, Keira & Sariah)
Today was the long awaited jog-a-thon. The kids (especially Jonah) have been practicing by running laps in the backyard or up and down our street for weeks now. The small kids and I cheered, waved and championed our runners.

Both Jonah and Katie John ran better than last year. Jonah busted out with 24 laps- that's 2 whole miles!! Katie John ran a whopping 17 laps, which is impressive for a 1st grader. We are so proud of our kids!

Jonah and Katie John enjoy a cooling orange freeze after the big event!
